BEACH RESORT REBRANDING

New Branding Logo Design

Golden Sands Resort is a beach hotel with contemporary design and state-of-the-art features. The resort is providing 5-stars accommodation and facilities, selling an experience of relaxing, nature and vacation to guests. The logo is inspired by the Malay woodcraft and the culture of Malay. A woodcraft, earthy colour palette and natural flora woodcraft motifs were selected to present the identity of the resort (as it similar to the interior design of the resort). The design solution for the logo is complicated, but presents a one-of -a-kind resort personality across many different messages. Overall, it gave a luxury and mixed of traditional and modern style appearance.

Stationery Design

The colours of the re-branding are finalized based on the colour palette of the interior design of the resort. The colour is the most immediate form of non-verbal communication, and then it made sense that the combination complicated style of logo with solid colour plays a key role in creating an instantly recognizable and differentiated identity.  Because of the logo is in a complicated form, in order to make it stand out, therefore the design of stationery layout is kept to simple and nice form.

Print Ad Design

Golden Sands Resort’s brand identity considers the resort’s complete visual language. The final designs work across a variety of different media, ranging from corporate stationery, print ad, and electronic direct mail to signage. Vandyke brown, pale orange and white colours are used for the rest of the brand communication to achieve consistent visual mood.

Electronic Direct Mailer (EDM)

Neat and nice layout to present the contemporary outlook of the resort.

Signage Design

The traditional wood frame design of the logo is highly flexible and identity of the resort that could be adopted and used in creating resort’s signage with adding in modern pictograms.

Self-promote Materials

Self-promote pieces/ Final Project/ Portfolio Showcase

It’s a good opportunity for me to create self-promote piece that led directly to work. I’ve created the self-promote print and web inspired by the directional signboards as the final project of this subject – Portfolio Presentation. The booklet with the A2 size poster of my project workflow is the single most effective piece of self-promote I have done, together with self-promote postcards and badges.

Putting effort in designing to show my strategic planning process and selected online portfolios on display on my website, the new identity represents a new direction for me to stand up and get notice. It allows me to get to the bottoms of my ideas, explore different paths and also to be motivated.

WAYne Design

Advertising Campaign/ Corporate Identity Design/ Branding/ Photography/ Illustration/ Story-boarding

两年在The One Academy Penang 的Graphic and Advertising课程快要结束。

Portfolio Presentation: Self-promote Print & Web

Self-promote pieces/ Final Project/ Portfolio Showcase

I’ve created my self-promote print and web inspired by the directional signboards and pictograms as the final project of this subject – Portfolio Presentation. Putting effort in designing this print to show my strategic planning process and selected portfolios display on my website. The new identity represents a new direction for me to stand up and get notice, hope it can works effectively to promote myself.

The readable logo is based on an appropriately selected typeface – Good Times, as it offers a kind of contemporary and confidently bold characteristic as to reflect of my works’ characteristic.

Besides that, to enhance my concept of “directions” effectively, I add in the elements of directional signboards with different inforgraphic in black and white to present one-of-a-kind identity. I design it with a brief in hand and the objective is to promote myself as a passionate and practical designer who always indulges my works by organizing and systematic planning to offer the best art direction to clients.

This is by far my favourite branding project. I develop the self-promote project in an attempt to better understand of my own works and characteristic.  I like the simple and innovative design. I’m also happy with how the idea came out of ‘offering directions’ and element of directional signboards with mind-mapping of workflow to show the process of how I complete my inspirational portfolios.

An A2 workflow of mind-map poster that can be folded down into A5 is designed together with the promotional booklet to present my portfolios. It considered as effective as it is portable and easily to be kept. And it just shows off my creative ability.

The selected portfolios ranging from advertising to storyboard appear in the booklet. The booklet features short caption and information about the inspirational projects.

Behind all of these artworks is a struggle of hard work and perseverance. Of course I thoroughly enjoy the process and I’m glad to complete this project with the help from a close friend.

Book Review: Designing Brand Identity: An Essential Guide for the Whole Branding Team

Category:Books
Genre: Arts & Photography
Author:Alina Wheeler

In this comprehensive and practical reference-book in branding communication, it is packed with useful notes and abundance of case-studies. I like the description and step-by-step explanation about strategy and planning so much. The case studies as detailed are insightful for the learners and the book picks up well-known international branding such as (RED), MoMA, and so on as case studies. Even some of the notes given by my lecturer are from this book.

I came across this book in Popular bookstore, well, it’s quite expensive (indeed, around RM 200), but luckily the library of college did have this book on the shelves. I do enjoy reading this book and I am grateful it has helped my assignment and project along the way. If you love branding strategy or doing relevant identity design project like what I do, then this reference book is a must-read for you.

Corporate Identity Design 2 & Brand Communication: Cinema Logo & Campaign Design

Corporate Identity Design 2 / Brand Communication / Final Project/ Cinema identity design/ Campaign design

Single Minded Proposition (SMP)

Offer the best in 3D Digital Cinema Technology and a high quality viewing experience of exclusive 3D movies.

Proposed Logo Design Requirement

The new logo will be conveying the essence of W Cinemax’s business activity – 3D films ; high and advanced quality viewing movie experience; Stylish and contemporary; Visually interesting & impactful; Legible in small & large scale for signage and promotional designs.

Proposed Event of the Campaign

3D SEEKER 3D Film Festival 2013
with the campaign themeline of x3 increase in 3D thrill!

It’s a 3D movie festival lasting three days which people can choose their favourite 3D films from the list of selected Threesome 3D Movies: 3 Best Blockbuster; 3 Best Animation and 3 Best Selected Films. In order to promoting the cinema’s 3D Viewing experience, 3D facilities and exclusive 3D films, the event invites you to seek greatest 3D films in your greatest 3D cinema! Highlights include 3D film-making seminar and meeting with directors, 3D theme exhibition, 3D interactive game and 3D short film-viewing.

An anaglyph colour palette which provides a stereoscopic 3D effect in red & cyan and also bold typeface were chosen to embody this new brand’s values, benefits and conveying the SMP: Great 3D viewing experience combined with the confidence of the business entity.

W CINEMAX came to me with a specific insight, which the cinema was modern and offering 3D films with high technology equipment. Essentially, it was a distinctive cinema but there were certain aspects that it wanted to address and emphasize the characteristic of the business entity.

After extensive research about some aspect of anaglyph graphic design and stereoscopic effects, I concluded that I should select the basic nature of 3D effect –overlapping of both layers red and cyan like the normal 3D glasses to present the alternative and easy recognizable 3D characteristic. This was the starting point for the project.

To ensure it would work across all the required media I tested it. I tried it out to design different layout of the posters and using everything that could be considered for the event such as buntings, leaflet, badges and more.

The logo and branding needed to address this, by working well (in photomontage) both on a large and small scale, final designs across the huge range of different media, from Prints, Ephemera to Vehicles – as well as Web & Digital.

Corporate Identity Design 1: Design Hotel Corporate Identity and Way Finding

Corporate Identity Design 1 / Visual Identity & Branding/ Final Project/ Resort identity design

The logo is inspired by the Malay woodcraft and the culture of Malaysia. A woodcraft, earthy colour palette and natural flora woodcraft motifs were selected to present the identity of the resort (as it is closely similar to the interior design of the resort). It clearly portrays a luxury and 5-star identity of the resort. The design solution for the logo is complicated, but presents a one-of -a-kind resort personality across many different messages. It highlights each of the elegant elements with respective message. Overall, it gave a luxury and a bold balance mixture of heritage and modernity.

The colour is the most immediate form of non-verbal communication, and then it made sense that the combination of complicated style of logo with solid colour plays a key role in creating an instantly recognizable and differentiated identity.  Because of the logo is in a complicated form, in order to make it stand out, therefore the design of stationeries layout is kept to simple and nice form. A4 letterhead, Name card, Envelope and Compliment Slip are included in the stationery set.

The resort brand identity considers the complete visual language. The final designs work across a variety of different media, ranging from corporate stationeries, and souvenirs  to signage. Vandyke brown, pale orange and white colours are used for the rest of the brand communication to achieve consistent visual mood.  The logo is distinctive and ownable, yet functional and long-lasting.

Applications into Website designs

wayfinding (signage design)

The traditional wood frame design of the logo is highly flexible and identity of the resort that could be adopted and used in creating resort’s signage with adding in modern pictograms.

I'm really happy about my works. This is the final project of Corporate Identity Design 1 during my third semester of second year study . It's about re-designing the logo of selected hotel - Golden Sands Resort. I didn't expect to work on such inspirational project but what I've achieved so far is like going through a lot of research analysis and refining stages in the logo design development process. Although it might not be perfectly produced, these are my works that I have used 14 weeks to create.

Book Review: The Graphic Design Exercise Book

Category:Books
Genre: Arts & Photography
Author:Carolyn Knight & Jessica Glaser

This book turns out to be a great read for those students who are taking graphic and advertising course simply because of the detailed explanation of selected creative briefs and case studies.

It manages to hook the reader from the very first page of introduction with offering advice on how to develop portfolio and hints in particular inspiring projects.

The book is divided into five different sections: packaging, visual identity and branding, page layout, music graphics and screen-based design. This book brilliantly attract me through each case study with the explained brief.  Readers clearly know what has to be achieved in defining the target market and understanding of the requirements. Each brief is illustrated with reference material. Readers also get to know the design development, solution and at the end you realized a project has to go through a lot of research and stages of design challenges. You may likely be interested to know more knowledge of visual graphic, visual identity palette, typographic setting, colour mood and exploration of various ideas as well as how to maintain strong visual connections across different applications.

The case studies and example portfolios may be pretty inspiring and useful for students. Nevertheless, the Graphic Design Exercise Book with reading list and glossary for referring for each 5 section will be a good resource for self-study.
